Electional Astrology: Choosing Better Timing
Electional astrology is the practice of choosing a time to begin an important action. The astrologer does not create a perfect chart or guarantee an outcome. The aim is to choose, from the times that are practically available, a chart with fewer serious weaknesses and more support for the purpose of the event.
How electional astrology works
An election begins with the real-world constraint: what can actually be moved? A wedding may have a limited date range. A business launch may need to happen during working hours. A journey depends on transport. Within those limits, astrologers examine the Ascendant and its ruler, the Moon and its next aspects, planetary condition, angularity, house rulers and the specific houses connected to the undertaking. The chart is judged as a whole rather than by one attractive placement.
Joshua Kaye’s approach
Joshua Kaye uses electional astrology as practical timing. The first task is to identify what matters most for the action and which compromises are acceptable. A chart that is useful for publication may not be the chart one would choose for marriage, travel or a financial agreement. Electional astrology therefore works best when the purpose is precise. It can improve the symbolic conditions of a beginning, but it cannot remove ordinary risks, substitute for planning, or override the natal and real-life circumstances of the people involved.
