The Barbault Basket: The planetary architecture of a new historical era
In July 2026, several of the slowest planets in the solar system gathered around the same degree of different signs.
Neptune moved through 4° Aries. Uranus entered 4° Gemini. Jupiter crossed 4° Leo while Pluto travelled backwards through 4° Aquarius. When the Moon reached 4° Libra, it connected itself to each of them and briefly completed the shape that astrologers have come to call the Barbault Basket.
The pattern is unusual because the planets involved govern developments that unfold over decades rather than days. They describe political power, technological change, collective belief, social transformation and the expansion of institutions. When several of them form close aspects at once, their separate processes can begin operating as parts of the same historical movement.
A technological development may alter how governments exercise authority. A crisis in trade or communication can accelerate the creation of a new institution. An idea that once lacked practical form may suddenly acquire the political support and infrastructure required to enter ordinary life.
The basket therefore describes more than a passing astrological atmosphere. It marks a period in which ideas, systems and concentrations of power can become unusually responsive to one another.

What is the Barbault Basket?
The central formation involves four slow-moving planets:
Neptune in Aries
Uranus in Gemini
Jupiter in Leo
Pluto in Aquarius
The Moon temporarily completed the pattern when it crossed Libra.
These planets occupied approximately 4° of their respective signs, producing a network of sextiles, trines and an opposition. The degree concentration is important. The planets were connected through signs that naturally form harmonious aspects, while also standing close enough by degree to create a precise mechanism.
Neptune in Aries formed a sextile with Uranus in Gemini.
Uranus formed a sextile with Jupiter in Leo and a trine with Pluto in Aquarius.
Jupiter opposed Pluto and formed a trine with Neptune.
When the Moon entered Libra, it opposed Neptune, formed a trine with Uranus and Pluto, and made a sextile to Jupiter.
The Moon moved through the configuration quickly. Its crossing gave the pattern a visible moment of completion, although the slower relationships continue beyond that date.
The outer planets describe the wider historical process. The Moon shows how that process reaches public life through needs, prices, security, social mood and collective consent.
Why the pattern carries André Barbault’s name
André Barbault was a French astrologer whose work focused heavily on mundane astrology: the branch of astrology concerned with nations, governments and collective history.
He studied the cycles formed by the slower planets and compared them with periods of war, political reorganisation and social change. His approach treated individual aspects as phases within larger historical sequences rather than isolated celestial events.
A conjunction could begin a cycle. A square might coincide with crisis or structural conflict. The opposition could expose the full consequences of what had begun decades earlier.
Barbault regarded the movement of the outer planets during the 2020s as historically significant because several long cycles were beginning new phases within a relatively concentrated period. The modern name “Barbault Basket” reflects the influence of that work and the unusual geometry created by the planets in 2026.
The name matters less than the method.
The configuration should be observed across time. Its meaning cannot be established through one week of dramatic headlines or a single event selected after the fact. We have to watch how the same themes repeat, become stronger and eventually enter laws, institutions or infrastructure.
Five occupied signs
The basket occupies five fire and air signs:
Aries
Gemini
Leo
Libra
Aquarius
Together, they describe the stages through which a new collective structure can develop.
Aries: the initiating force
Aries begins processes.
Neptune’s presence there gives the beginning an imaginal and ideological quality. A collective dream searches for a body. A belief acquires urgency. Something previously experienced as abstract, spiritual or impossible demands practical expression.
Neptune can inspire movements capable of reorganising society. It can also blur the distinction between genuine vision and seductive fantasy.
The originating idea may therefore be powerful before its consequences are understood.
Gemini: the means of transmission
Gemini governs language, information, transport and the systems through which one point connects with another.
Uranus in Gemini accelerates developments in communication, computation, media and technological exchange. Established methods of producing and verifying knowledge can change quickly.
The important question is no longer simply what people believe. The question becomes which system carries the belief, who controls that system and how rapidly the message can spread.
Gemini gives the emerging vision a language and a network.
Leo: authority and recognition
Leo concerns visibility, leadership and the power to place something at the centre of collective attention.
Jupiter in Leo enlarges confidence and ambition. Governments, corporations, institutions and public figures can present themselves as the authors of a new historical direction.
The developing system requires legitimacy. Someone has to declare that it represents progress, prosperity or the future.
Jupiter can attract support and resources. It can also magnify the interests of the actor already occupying the most visible position.
Libra: agreement and public consent
Libra governs contracts, diplomacy, exchange and the attempt to create a workable relationship between different interests.
The Moon’s temporary presence in Libra brings the configuration into the lives of ordinary people. Institutions may design systems, although those systems survive only when populations accept their consequences.
Questions of fairness become unavoidable.
Who receives the benefit? Who absorbs the cost? Which participant must change when the arrangement becomes unstable?
Libra gives the structure its agreements and social legitimacy.
Aquarius: systems and collective power
Aquarius governs networks, institutions and forms of organisation that extend beyond individual identity.
Pluto in Aquarius transforms the systems through which power circulates. Technologies and organisations can distribute participation across enormous populations while ownership remains concentrated beneath the surface.
A network may serve millions of people. Control over its rules can still belong to a small group.
Aquarius gives the emerging order durability. It turns the agreement into infrastructure.
The missing Sagittarius position
The basket occupies five of the six fire and air signs. Sagittarius is absent.
This missing point may be one of the most revealing features of the configuration.
Sagittarius concerns international law, political philosophy and the principles through which societies justify their actions. It provides the story that allows a system to claim legitimacy beyond one nation or institution.
The basket contains the ability to initiate, transmit, authorise, negotiate and organise. The common doctrine remains unsettled.
Humanity may become capable of building a new structure before reaching agreement about what the structure should serve.
A payment system can connect multiple countries without solving the imbalance between them. An artificial intelligence platform may offer powerful tools while leaving unanswered questions about the ownership of the work used to train it. A new alliance can describe itself as multilateral even when one member retains disproportionate influence.
The missing Sagittarius point represents the need for a principle capable of standing above immediate sovereign advantage.
Jupiter rules Sagittarius and is present in Leo, the sign of leadership and prestige. The absent universal principle may initially be expressed through the ambitions of powerful states or institutions.
A national project may be presented as a global solution.
The difference will have to be tested through results.
What the basket may mean for humanity
The most hopeful potential of the Barbault Basket lies in coordination.
Neptune, Uranus and Pluto describe forces that can operate far beyond the authority of any individual government. Their harmonious relationships create the possibility that imagination, technology and systemic change may support one another.
Ideas that previously lacked a practical route into the world can gain form. Communities separated by geography may develop new ways of exchanging resources and knowledge. Public institutions could use technology to expand access to services that were once available only to a privileged minority.
Jupiter increases the scale of what becomes possible.
The same coordination can strengthen systems that already distribute power unevenly.
Technological efficiency can accelerate surveillance. Faster financial settlement can increase the speed at which capital leaves a country during a crisis. Artificial intelligence can expand creative production while weakening the ownership rights of the people whose work made the system possible.
The aspects describe ease of connection. The quality of what is connected depends upon the laws and institutions built around it.
The central human question is therefore political as much as technological.
Will the new systems distribute meaningful power, or will they extend participation inside structures that remain privately controlled?
Why the pattern has an economic tone
The Barbault Basket reaches far beyond economics, although economic questions sit close to its centre.
Jupiter describes expansion, wealth and confidence.
Pluto describes ownership, concentration and the power hidden within systems.
Uranus changes the infrastructure through which information and value move.
Neptune governs collective ideals, intangible assets and systems that depend upon trust.
The Moon shows how these forces reach the public through employment, prices, housing and material security.
Together, the planets raise questions about the organisation of value.
Who issues the currency in which exchange is measured?
Who owns the technology through which money moves?
Which country must reduce consumption when trade becomes imbalanced?
Who benefits from a system’s expansion?
Who absorbs the losses when the structure fails?
These questions already appear in debates concerning sovereign debt, sanctions, reserve currencies, digital payments, energy routes and international trade.
The opposition between Jupiter in Leo and Pluto in Aquarius is especially important.
Jupiter represents visible authority and the confidence of powerful actors. Pluto represents power embedded within networks that can influence the actions of governments, companies and populations.
A government may issue a currency while international institutions determine where it can circulate.
A country can produce energy without controlling the ships, insurance systems or payment networks required to convert that resource into usable income.
A creator can reach millions of people through a digital platform while the platform owns the data and distribution system.
The basket brings these relationships into the same historical field.
The possible return of Keynes
John Maynard Keynes is often associated with government spending during economic downturns. His work on the international monetary system was broader and more radical.
During the creation of the postwar financial order, Keynes argued that economic imbalances could not be corrected fairly when the entire burden fell upon debtor countries.
A country in deficit could be forced to reduce wages, imports and public spending. A persistent creditor could continue accumulating surpluses without facing comparable pressure to change.
Keynes believed that both sides of the imbalance carried responsibility.
The postwar system adopted only part of the architecture he proposed. The principle that persistent creditors should also face adjustment never became a central rule of international finance.
The Barbault Basket may coincide with a return to that unresolved question.
The shift may not use Keynes’s name. It could appear through reform of international reserves, pressure upon surplus economies, new clearing mechanisms or attempts to create settlement systems that are less dependent upon a single national currency.
A technological change would alter how transactions are processed.
A deeper Keynesian change would alter who is required to adjust.
That distinction will be one of the central themes of this research.
New payment infrastructure can operate faster while preserving the same concentration of power. A regional currency may reduce dependence upon one dominant state and increase dependence upon another. An alliance can protect its members from external pressure while creating a new hierarchy inside the group.
The project will track whether emerging systems change the underlying rules or merely transfer control to a different institution.
Why countries with 4° placements matter
A global planetary configuration does not express itself identically in every country.
National charts contain planets that may respond more strongly when the same degree is activated in the sky. A country with a planet at 4° may therefore become a particularly sensitive point within the larger pattern.
This research begins with countries whose selected national charts contain at least one planet at a literal 4° of any sign.
Placements at 3° or 5° may still respond, although they are excluded from the primary list. The narrower degree range allows the research to begin with a defined group rather than expanding until almost every country appears relevant.
The planet occupying 4° describes the national function most likely to become involved.
A 4° Mercury may connect the country to news concerning trade, contracts, transportation or payment systems.
A 4° Venus may direct attention toward currencies, resources, diplomatic agreements or the ownership of value.
Mars can bring conflict, enforcement or urgent action.
Jupiter may enlarge a country’s institutional or economic role.
Saturn can expose questions of law, debt and structural responsibility.
The outer planets describe deeper changes in sovereignty, technology and collective organisation.
Where a reliable time exists, the house placement shows the area of national life through which the activation may become visible.
How the research log will work
The public log will begin with monthly reports from August 2026.
Each report will contain only developments that materially correspond with the original thesis. Routine political news, ordinary economic data and dramatic headlines without structural significance will be excluded.
Events will be grouped into five stages.
Early signal
A proposal, experiment or emerging development that has not yet gained enough influence to alter the wider system.
Acceleration
A process gaining political, economic or institutional momentum.
Institutionalisation
A development entering law, formal infrastructure or a durable international organisation.
Crisis manifestation
An event exposing weaknesses already present within the existing system.
False start
A development that initially appeared significant and then failed to advance.
False starts will remain visible.
A public research archive loses much of its value when unsuccessful interpretations quietly disappear. Keeping them allows readers to distinguish a genuine repeated pattern from a collection of selectively chosen events.
Every entry will ask four questions:
Who created the value?
Who owns the system through which it moves?
Who controls settlement?
Who bears the cost of adjustment?
The answers may change as a story develops. A proposal classified as an early signal could later become institutional policy. A dramatic announcement may eventually prove to have been little more than rhetoric.
The log will preserve those transitions.
What I will be watching
The earliest signs of the basket may appear through events that initially seem unrelated.
A country may create a new cross-border payment system.
Another may repatriate its gold reserves.
A debt crisis could renew arguments about the responsibility of creditors.
A disruption to a port or shipping route may reveal that physical infrastructure has as much power as the currency used to price the cargo.
The pattern becomes historically significant when these separate developments begin to converge.
A communications crisis forces government intervention. Several countries create an alternative network. The network develops rules governing access, settlement and ownership. Conflict emerges when the costs are distributed unequally.
The decisive change would involve the principle of adjustment itself.
Such a system would recognise that imbalance is created through relationships. Debtor countries may have obligations, while creditors and infrastructure owners would no longer be treated as passive participants without responsibilities of their own.
We may see only fragments of this process during 2026.
Outer-planet patterns unfold across years. Their earliest manifestations often arrive as experiments, crises and provisional agreements whose full meaning becomes visible much later.
The archive is designed to remain open long enough to observe what survives.
The question beneath the research
Humanity now possesses an extraordinary capacity for coordination.
Money can cross borders almost instantly. Artificial intelligence can translate languages and generate information at a scale no person could process alone. Supply chains connect producers and consumers across continents.
The systems enabling this coordination are becoming central to daily life. Ownership of those systems remains highly concentrated.
The Barbault Basket may accompany the creation of new currencies, institutions, alliances and technological platforms. Some may distribute resources more widely. Others may create deeper forms of dependence.
The configuration opens the possibility of a new architecture.
This research will examine who is allowed to own it.
